1. Getting started
How do I install SweepBox? Visit the install section on the homepage or search "SweepBox" on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
How do I open SweepBox? Click the SweepBox icon in your Chrome toolbar — the side panel slides open from the right. It works alongside any tab, including Gmail.
What do I need to grant access to? When you click Scan inbox for the first time, Google asks for permission to read, compose, and send emails on your behalf. SweepBox uses this scope to read message headers (to find senders), move emails to Trash (for bulk deletes), and send unsubscribe emails (for senders that only accept the RFC 8058 mailto: method). SweepBox never reads message bodies.
2. Scanning your inbox
How long does a scan take? Most inboxes scan in 30-90 seconds. Very large inboxes (50,000+ messages) can take a few minutes. The scan is incremental — partial results are visible as soon as the first batch finishes.
The scan stopped halfway. What now? Click Scan inbox again. If a scan was interrupted (panel closed, browser quit), SweepBox resumes from where it left off. If you want to start fresh, go to Account → Wipe local data.
Why don't I see favicons for every sender? SweepBox skips favicon discovery for senders with only one email — those are usually one-off transactional emails with no recognizable logo. Senders with two or more emails get a favicon attempt.
3. Unsubscribing
What does "silent" vs "manual" unsubscribe mean?
- Silent: the sender supports the official one-click unsubscribe (RFC 8058 List-Unsubscribe-Post or mailto:). SweepBox handles it in the background — no clicks needed from you.
- Manual: the sender only offers a web-form unsubscribe page. SweepBox walks you through each one — open the page, do the click, mark it done.
I unsubscribed but I'm still getting emails. Most senders honor unsubscribes within 24-48 hours. If you keep receiving emails after a week, either:
- The sender ignored the unsubscribe (rare, but happens with low-quality senders) — bulk-delete their backlog and mark as spam in Gmail
- You're subscribed to multiple lists at the same domain (e.g., "newsletter" and "promotions" are separate lists) — scan again and look for the second list
Can I unsubscribe and delete in one go? Yes — when you click Unsubscribe, tick the "Also move N emails to Trash after unsubscribing" checkbox in the confirmation modal.
4. Pro, billing, and licenses
How do I upgrade to Pro? Click the Upgrade to Pro button on the account page. You'll be taken to Stripe Checkout. After payment, your license activates automatically and is emailed to you.
How do I use my license on another device? On the second device, open the SweepBox account page → Restore purchase → paste the license key from your purchase email.
I lost my license key. Email [email protected] from the same address you used at checkout — we'll resend it.
How do I get a refund? Email [email protected] within 14 days of purchase, subject line "Refund request". Full refund if you've used fewer than 100 Pro actions. See the refund policy for details.
5. Privacy and data
Where does my data go? Nowhere — it stays on your device. SweepBox reads message headers via Google's official Gmail API and keeps the resulting sender list in chrome.storage.local. There is no SweepBox server holding your data.
How do I revoke SweepBox's access to Gmail? Two ways:
- From SweepBox: account page → Sign out of SweepBox. This revokes the OAuth token and wipes all local data.
- From Google: myaccount.google.com/permissions → find SweepBox → Remove access.

6. Troubleshooting
"The user did not approve access" after clicking Scan. You cancelled or skipped the Google sign-in screen. Click Scan inbox again and click Continue when Google asks for permission.
Scan fails with "Rate limited". Gmail's API has per-account rate limits. Wait about 60 seconds and try again. If you scan repeatedly in a short window you'll hit the cap.
The side panel is blank or frozen. Close the panel, then reopen it from the toolbar icon. If that doesn't help, go to chrome://extensions, find SweepBox, and click the reload arrow.
I'm seeing the wrong favicon for a sender. SweepBox's favicon discovery isn't perfect — some senders share infrastructure with other brands. Email [email protected] with the sender's name + domain and we'll fix it in the next release.
Pro features aren't unlocking after payment. The upgrade flow uses a content script on sweepbox.app/upgrade-success to relay your license. If you blocked the redirect, paste your license key manually via Account → Restore purchase.
